My first impression of Ernie was at a campground, when I wondered who was that handsome man on the ride-on mower...
Ernie reminded me so much of my Dad. Although Dad had 12 children, he wanted the family to get together for weekly Sunday dinners. Even though the house was already full, he would call me to make sure I was coming. I was 26 when Dad passed, and so missed those phone calls that told me I was wanted. I missed those calls for 25 years.
Then I met Diana and Ernie, and we became friends at the campground, at Lodge, and at home. Ernie would often call to ask when we were coming to visit them again, or just to touch base until the next visit. The phone calls left a sense of being wanted that was very healing and heart-warming.
Ernie could be funny and make me laugh, or slightly bossy and make me annoyed, but I always knew that whatever his thoughts, they came from the heart. I missed those phone calls the last couple of years that he was sick, and I will miss them forever.
Ernie was a doer, always working on a new project, getting things done, whether it was home upkeep, repair or improvement. In his later years, he would say "that is one more thing done that Diana won't have to worry about". His love for his wife was always very evident and top of his mind. He was loving and loyal to his wife, his family and his friends. God has a new Angel that I don't think will sit in rest too long, if there is anything that needs to be done in Heaven. R.I.P. my friend. ❤️
