Obituary of John (Stephen) Sutherland

John (Stephen) Sutherland of Riverton passed away at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow on November 2, 2024.

Stephen was the son of the late Helen (Culton) and John Sutherland . He was survived by his brother Philip and close neighbour Sinnis cousins Beth (Larry) Joan (Chris) and Carol (Mark) and George who considered him their brother. As well as numerous cousins .

Stephen was a graduate of WPDH . He earned his Bachelor of of Commerce from St. Mary's University. 

He worked in British Columbia for a few years and returned to Riverton where he and Philip lived in their childhood home. They both took care of each other. 

Stephen was a lifelong member of the Christ Anglican Church, where he sang in the choir. Many times he sang solos. 

Stephen lived the last 4 years at Valley View Villa in Riverton where he received excellent care. Stephen enjoyed living at the Villa and said the staff were very good to him. He got to enjoy the church services and special outings that would not have been possible on his own.  Last year he had Philip as a roommate there. 

The family will celebrate Stephen's life privately. 

We would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Valley View Villa. Especially the nursing staff.  Thank you Dawn for getting Philip to the hospital to see Stephen before he passed. Also to Jackie, Stephens nurse that day who took extra time with Philip. Thank you to all the staff at the Aberdeen Hospital outpatients, 4th floor and Palliative Care.  You all did an amazing job keeping Stephen comfortable and the family appreciates all that was done.
