Obituary of Thirtza Blackmore
Thirza M. Blackmore, 83, North Main Street, Westville passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Thorburn, she was a daughter of the late James F. and Pearl (Mason) Smith.
She grew up in Westville, graduated from Westville High and completed her grade 12 in New Glasgow. Thirza was a veteran of WWII, and was stationed in Halifax and Sydney. Prior to joining the RCA, she served the war effort by working at the Pictou Shipyards as a specialized rivet inspector. Following the war, she worked as a bookkeeper at various companies, including Vet’s Transfer, Dwyer Motors, and Glasgow Mercury. She was a member of St. Paul United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #28 Stellarton.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Nancy Blackmore (Rick Young), Dartmouth; son Jim Smith (Patricia), White Horse; grandchildren, Steven (Jeannie) and Christine (Gerard); great grandchildren, Brittany, Dawson, Mathias, and Mya. She is also survived by sisters, Jean MacPherson, Westville and Janet Wilson, Ottawa, and brother, Cecil Smith (Jeannette), Garden of Eden.
She was predeceased by her husband George; brother Robert “Bob” Smith; and daughter in law Catherine Smith.
Visitations were held fat Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service was held at Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Spring burial will take place in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations in her memory may be made to Pictou County VON or a charity of one’s choice.
