Obituary of Janice Monica MacLeod
Janice Monica MacLeod (McCully) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and care of her devoted son and family.
Janice was born to the late Kenneth and Faye McCully April 25, 1947. She grew up in Pictou where she attended Stela Marris School. She worked at Smiths Restaurant, and then met and married her best friend and partner Hugh MacLeod. Janice and Hugh spent 52 years marrying their best friend, raising a loving son, building a wonderful life together.
To say that Janice was Hughs right hand in life and business would be an understatement. There was no part of Hugh’s life and business that she didn’t fully support and help him to thrive.
Janice was a kind and loving soul. She welcomed everyone into her home and always had a warm (or cold) drink and a sweet treat at the ready. Known for her love of baking, food was her love language. Homemade white bread & Biscuits for Hugh (a little on the dark side just how he liked it), fruit cakes for family, treats for the boys at the welding shop and a never ending supply of goodies and a smile for anyone who might drop in.
Her love of gardening found her outside tending to her garden to which many of us reaped the benefits both in the produce and her canned preserves.
Kind to everyone she met, Janice will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to call her family and friend. But we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Hugh.
Janice was survived by her loving and devoted son Milton ( Shiela ) who cared for her and never left her side these past many months as he helped her through this part of her journey. She is also survived by her step granddaughter Kathleen MacDonald (Chad), sister Helena Castle, sisters in law Thelma Forbes(Jimmie) Hamilton Ontario, Mary Belle MacLean ( Donnie) Rockfield, Kay Hoare, Westville and many close cousins, nieces and nephews.
Janice was predeceased by her best friend and loving husband Hugh MacLeod, Sister Patricia Marcott, brother Adam McCully, brother-in-law Jerry Castle and step grandson Cameron MacDonald.
Special thank you to Rachel and all the VON, your efforts makes a difference.
A committal service will be held on Sat Dec 21 at the Bethel Church Cemetery by the brook at 11 am with the Rev Glenn Matheson officiating. A gathering at the Durham church Hall at noon.
