Obituary of Joseph Chisholm

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Gerard Chisholm (Joe). Joe passed away on December 7, 2024 at the age of 64 due to complications after courageous battle with a short illness.

Born March 3, 1960 to the late Joseph (Down) and Audrey (Young) Chisholm of Antigonish. Joe grew up in Heatherton and as an adult he later moved to Pictou County. He was employed for many years as a welder at Trenton Works, Maritime Steel and both Pictou and Halifax shipyards. For the past 15 years Joe loved and took great pride in his work out west and different camp jobs he worked. Most recently his past four years were spent working in Kitamat, BC.

 Joe was known as a “true legend” and was very well respected by his coworkers and many good friends he has met over the years, who may reference him as “Smoking Joe Chisholm”.

 Joe was a very quiet and gentle soul, he never complained and was always up for anything. Joe truly cherished his best friend and wife, Patti. He was happy just to be home spending time with her, she was the twinkle in his eye. He treasured their time together and look forward to their time spent travelling to the Dominican every December and April. He was also a diehard Boston Bruins fan who enjoyed his weekly hockey and football pools with his buddies. Joe will be missed by all his friends and family especially his wife Patti, his children and stepchildren, his mother Audrey who he absolutely adored, his mother-in-law who will deeply miss his morning delivery of tea. As well as his siblings, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Joe was survived by his wife Patti Malloy of Stellarton; his mother Audrey Lafontain of Antigonish; father and mother-in-law Doug (Ann) Fraser of Stellarton; sons David (Megan) of Pictou, JD (Amber) of Brantford Ontario; daughter Alecia (Ricky) of Antigonish; Stepsons Ronnie (Brandie) of BC and Colby (Hailey) of BC; step daughters Brittany of Bayview, Kyla (Zach) Westville; Sisters Barb (Gerome), Terry (Dave), Isabel (Lawrence), Francis (Dale), Jackie (Brian);  brother Donnie (Joyce); godson Randy and goddaughter Kayla, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joe was best known as Papa Joe to his grandchildren Justin, Victor, Nathan, Alona, Brayden, Scottie, Alexander, Riley, Oliver, Jordan, Colton, Haillie, Hunter, Grayson, Kylynn, Kinsley.

Joe was predeceased by his father Joseph (Down) Chisholm; stepfather Joe Lafontain; and father-in-law Billy Malloy.

No Funeral or Visitation by his request. Cremation Has taken place. Donations may be made to Pictou County Karma Cat Rescue or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
