Obituary of Stephen Nicholson

Stephen “Nick” Wayne Nicholson (April 1 1958- August 28, 2024)

With broken hearts and tear filled eyes, we announce the passing of a husband, brother, nephew, friend, father and his most coveted title grandfather(grumpy).

He leaves behind his wife of 46 years Catherine (Dickie), daughters, Stephanie Nicholson and Lovetta Gladney (Greg) as well as sisters; Margaret (Ceta) Stewart (Allan), Romaine MacKinnon (Dusty) and brothers; Issac MacNeil (Cheryl), Garfield Nicholson (Alice) and Tom Nicholson (Denise); brother in law Wilfred Pettipaw, many nieces and nephews and the extra light in his eyes his grandchildren Erica and Parker.

Steven was predeceased by parents Leslie MacNeil and Kathleen “Beryl” Nicholson(Stewart); sister, Diane Pettipaw (Nicholson); brother and sister in infancy as well as many beloved friends.

He spent most of his time trying to help others. His list of volunteer work is so long but a few included, Pictou County Ground Search and Rescue, St. John Ambulance 701 division, Scouts Canada and the Salvation Army. He especially held a soft place for the Christmas kettle and toy drive campaign.

In his earlier years he held many positions with his most recent having been at Michelin tire and at Valhalla gun shop.

Steven loved being around people, telling stories or silly jokes whenever he could. If you had the pleasure to spend any amount of time with him you know this all too well.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Aberdeen hospital and huge thank you to the caring staff from VON that helped us spend as long as we did with Steve. Special thanks to Major Dan Roode and to David Lees, Honorary Pallbearer.

Visitation will take place from 12-2 with funeral immediately to follow at Eagles funeral home Saturday September 7. Afterwards a reception will take place at the salvation army Westville.
