Obituary of Daniel Lloyd

DANIEL ANGUS LLOYD, CD (1936 – 2024)

Daniel Angus Lloyd, age 87 of Westville, NS, affectionally known as “Danny-Boy” passed away at home on August 10, 2024.  Loving  husband, father, grandfather, friend and “Sailor”, he will be sadly missed.

Born in Westville he was the son of Daniel MacDonald Lloyd and Mary Eleanor (Dowell) Lloyd. In September 1957, at the age of 21 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a Marine Engineering Technician (Stoker) and sailed the seas until he retired in 1978. During one of many trips back and forth from Westville to Stadacona he happened to stop at the Mount Tom gas station where in 1967 he met the love of his life Verna Muriel Dawson.

Loving husband, he is survived by Verna and children Robert (Glenda), John (Janice), Robin (Carolyn), Michael (Cathy), Daniel (Jr), Terry (Tonia), Cathy, Dougie, Kenny and Dewayne (Diane), Inez (John), Vernon (Tammy), Sisters Jean (Daniel) O’Connor, Elaine Defranco, Betty Grover and Sandra Penney, and 23 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his by his siblings Anne Silver, Flora Bruton, Patsy Urguhart, and brother Jimmy Lloyd.

 Among the great ships he sailed on, in April 1969 he was posted to HMCS Bonaventure (The Bonnie) and had some amazing stories to tell riding out Hurricanes. Upon retiring from the Service, he went to work as a Commissionaire Security Guard for Northern Pulp. He was a very enthusiastic fisherman and hunter, but his favorite thing to do was to tell stories, often while playing cards, he will be forever remembered for these. One of the many life skills he taught us was to read a compass and navigate in the woods.  We remember the weekly car rides on old country roads where he would speed up to go over little hills to cause a sense of being on a roller coaster.
