Obituary of John Penney
We sadly announce the death of John Charles Penney, 77, of Stellarton, who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 17 at his home with his daughter and grandson by his side.
Born in New Glasgow on September 9, 1943, he was a son of the late Abram and Margaret (MacDonald) Penney.
John in his earlier days was a coal miner and draegerman working at the MacBain Coal Mine until its closure. From there he went to Michelin Tire for 30 years until his retirement.
His love for sports he carried throughout his whole life. Fly fishing and fly tying he excelled in. During fishing season he could always be found on the East River St Mary’s. Dad was a huge Montreal Canadian fan. You could also find him at the baseball field helping his good friend Leo Fahey. He was a past member of the Stellarton Air Force Association. We will always remember him for his funny sense of humor and he always had a joke ready for you.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Karen (Pretty); daughters Donna Stevens (Tony ), Westville and Charlene Penney, Annapolis Valley; grandchildren, John, Damon, Jayden, Kelsey, Andrew, Ava and 1 great-grandchild Devyn Lee; sisters-in-law Hilda Pretty, Janice Kean, Doreen Robinson and Marlene McCool, and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by sister Mary Turner (Robert); brothers Robert Penney and Francis Penney; brothers-in-law Melvin Pretty, Jim Pretty and sister-in-law Melba Pretty.
There will be no visitation or funeral. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.Donations made in memory of dad to be sent to the Stellarton Memorial Community Centre Association.
